Oaths were often a way to sound honest while leaving room to lie. Jesus cut through it: just tell the truth.

Is it a sin to swear an oath?
Jesus said “Swear not at all… let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay” (Matthew 5:34, 37). James 5:12 repeats it.
Does this include cursing and crude talk?

How can my speech change?
Through the new man “renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him” (Colossians 3:10). Jesus changes the heart, and the mouth follows.
