Hiding feels safer. The light would show what the heart has done. So a person stays in the dark and calls it privacy.
Jesus named that love of darkness. He is the way, the truth, and the life, and that truth is freedom from all bondages — including hiding from the light.
“And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.”
John 3:19–21 · KJV
“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
John 8:36 · KJV
